We face many challenges in this era of cutting edge technology; the internet has changed the dynamics of how we live our lives in many positive ways. The path to achieve physical and mental fitness and becoming healthy along with wealthy seems to have gone off the radar screen. We have instant messaging and cell phones have evolved into smart phones which places a computer in your pocket or purse. We seem to have forgotten about becoming and staying physically fit. The information age is an amazing phenomenon and has in many ways changed our lives forever!
In this author’s view all this amazing technology has also given us many challenges in our daily lives. This is the first in a powerful series of articles researching the effects on us. Let’s first talk about the physical effects brought upon us by the information age. Time management seems to have become a factor in our busy lives. It has become difficult to find the time to fit in a workout schedule to get on the path to achieve physical and mental fitness. I recently observed young parents pushing their baby strollers around the mall and was shocked at how overweight and out of shape many of these parents have become. They have become so busy in their personal lives that any form of a regular workout routine seems impossible. We must get on the path to achieving physical and mental fitness!
Problems that have become pervasive in our society are due to lack of physical exercise causing anxiety and depression. In recent TV advertisements the number of drugs treating anxiety and depression has increased off the charts. So I started looking into the statistics and found out just how many people are in desperate need for these drugs. I am not a physician but I have studied many excellent books on how to achieve physical and mental fitness. I have built an effective workout schedule for myself and have found the path. I converted a room in my home into a full gym so I can’t use the excuse that “the weather is bad or the gym in town will be crowded this time of day”.
Do your homework, then look at your calendar and write in a time slot for a workout at least four days per week. If you follow my advice, your body’s endorphin levels will increase and make you feel better. Many people may not need these dangerous drugs if they start a workout schedule. When endorphin levels increase people usually look and feel better and will be on the path to achieve physical and mental fitness!
